Humans are always looking to make things better, faster, or stronger. They are never content to let prime Guelph real estate run the way it is currently running. They view that state as a temporary state on the way to an even better one. This is partially because human beings are impatient and partially because they are perpetually dissatisfied with the fact that they do not live in a perfect world and are always striving to get there. This is also why computers and computer programming have advanced in such leaps and bounds over the last few decades. This page contains history and information of a few such leaps and bounds, especially the Modporter program.
To understand what Modporter is, you first need to understand what Modporter was meant to do. It was meant to work with Ruby on Rails, an accelerated web application framework written in the Ruby programming language, which is object based, works across multiple platforms, and written under an open source license. What that means is that unlike your Toronto condo, where only you are permitted to make changes to it, anyone can work on Ruby or Ruby on Rails to improve it or create new programs that work with it. Modporter is one of these programs.
As we mentioned before, any time human beings get involved improvements and add ons are sure to follow, so it wasn't long after Ruby on Rails' 2005 release that Modporter came onto the scene. It was invented Pratik Naik and Michael Koziarski. They're not just two guys who work in a London, Ontario stable or a Niagara Falls hotel. Koziarski was a member of the team that developed Rails (which Ruby on Rails was based on). He works as an independent web design consultant and runs the online teaching tool The Rails Way. Naik was also a Rails core contributor and developed several plugins for the system. He currently works for 37signals.

All programs must have a function, and Modporters was to help developers scale the number of simultaneous file uploads when they are using a Rails application. Scaling an upload makes it smaller and easier for the Toronto SEO's website to store and display. To get this functionality, Naik and Koziarski combined an Apache module with a Rails plugin. Apache is a cross-platform program that runs web servers, and Rails is simply a programming language, so by putting them together they were able to achieve the result they wanted and Modporter was born.
Every program, even Modporter, has limitations. One of the limitations of Modporter include that it can't be used on a shared server, but only on a dedicated one or within a dedicated environment. However, many other programmers have been able to take Modporter and use it as a springboard for further achievements and accomplishments, such as combining it with Plone. It has received a general stamp of approval in the web development community, so instead of getting a book on loop calibrators next time you're at the library have a look at web development.
